Calculate the duration between two times.

Methodology, assumptions, and limitations

Each time is converted to minutes from midnight, the difference is calculated, and the result is converted back into hours and minutes. Overnight calculations add one day when the ending time is earlier than the starting time.

Assumptions
  • Both times use the same time zone.
  • The interval is no longer than the supported day range.
  • Hours and minutes describe elapsed clock time.
Limitations
  • Daylight-saving transitions can make clock time differ from actual elapsed time.
  • Work breaks are not deducted automatically.
